“The quieting of our
mind is a political act. The world does not need
more oil or energy or food. It needs less greed,
less hatred, less ignorance. Even if we have inwardly
taken on the political bitterness or cynicism that exists externally, we can
stop and begin to heal our own suffering, our own fear, with
compassion. Through meditation and inner transformation, we can
learn to make our own hearts a place of peace and integrity. Each of
us knows how to do this. As Gandhi acknowledged,
“I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and non-violence are as old as
the hills.” Is is our inner nobility
and steadiness that we must call on in our personal and
collective difficulties.” ~ Jack Kornfield

Hunter
“We
are all alone, born alone, die alone, and—in spite of True Romance
magazines—we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in
spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say
lonely—at least, not all the time—but essentially, and finally, alone.
This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how
you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of
others for your happiness.”

Covid 19
Whatever
it is, coronavirus has made the mighty kneel and brought the world to a
halt like nothing else could. Our minds are still racing back and
forth, longing for a return to “normality”, trying to stitch our future
to our past and refusing to acknowledge the rupture. But the rupture
exists. And in the midst of this terrible despair, it offers us a chance
to rethink the doomsday machine we have built for ourselves. Nothing could be worse than a return to normality. Historically,
pandemics have forced humans to break with the past and imagine their
world anew. This one is no different. It is a portal, a gateway between
one world and the next. We
can choose to walk through it, dragging the carcasses of our prejudice
and hatred, our avarice, our data banks and dead ideas, our dead rivers
and smoky skies behind us. Or we can walk through lightly, with
little luggage, ready to imagine another world. And ready to fight for
it. ~ Arundhati Roy
