In some aboriginal tribes the first thing a person does upon
awakening is to wander alone into the bush or along the seashore and
create a song based on the dreams of the previous night. The animals
and birds, the Aborigines believe, hear the dream being
sung and recognize that the singer is in touch with the innerworld, and
therefore they assist him or her in daily hunting and gathering."
