Trees

More Wendell

Kabir

“Between the conscious and unconscious, the mind has put up a swing; all earth creatures, even supernovas, sway between these two trees, and it never winds down. Angels,  animals, humans, insects by the million, also the wheeling sun and moon; ages go by, and it goes on. Everything is swinging: heaven, earth, water, fire, and the secret one is slowly growing a body. Kabir saw this for fifteen seconds, and it made him a servant for life.”~ Kabir

Great Pacific Garbage Patch

"It’s 3:23 in the morning and I’m awake, because my great, great grandchildren won’t let me sleep. My great, great grandchildren ask me in dreams what did you do while the planet was plundered? What did you do when the earth was unraveling? Surely you did something when the seasons started failing and as the mammals, reptiles, birds were all dying? Did you fill the streets with protest when democracy was stolen? What did you do once you knew?  ~      Drew Dellinger – Hieroglyphic Stairway

Human spaceship

We are each a spaceship soaring through the universe. We all carry with us trillions of microorganisms as we go through life. These multitudes of bacteria, fungi, and archaea have different DNA than we do. Collectively called our microbiome, our shipmates outnumber our own cells. Our crew members form communities, , help digest food, engage in battles against intruders, and sometimes commute on a liquid superhighway from one end of our bodies to the other. Much of what our microbiome does, however, remains unknown. We are the captains, but being nice to our crew may allow us to explore more of our local cosmos.

Three things

"To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it
against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it go,
to let it go."

Hope made flesh

Poem

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky;and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes
(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth
day of life and love and wings and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any-lifted from the no
of all nothing-human merely being
doubt unimaginable You?
(now the ears of my ears awake and
now the eyes of my eyes are opened)

MLK again

Lao Tse

Why scurry about looking for the truth? It vibrates in every thing and every not-thing,
right off the tip of your nose. Can you be still and see it in the mountain? the pine tree? yourself? Don't imagine that you'll discover it by accumulating more knowledge. Knowledge creates doubt, and doubt makes you ravenous for more knowledge. You can't get full eating this way.The wise person dines on something more subtle: He eats the understanding that the named was born from the unnamed, that all being flows from non-being, that the describable world emanates from an indescribable source. He finds this subtle truth inside his own self,
and becomes completely content. So who can be still and watch the chess game of the world? The foolish are always making impulsive moves, but the wise know that victory and defeat are decided by something more subtle. They see that something perfect exists before any move is made. This subtle perfection deteriorates when artificial actions are taken, so be content not to disturb the peace. Remain quiet. Discover the harmony in your own being. Embrace it. If you can do this, you will gain everything, and the world will become healthy again. If you can't, you will be lost in the shadows forever.
